Started having no brakes,no steering,no clutch assist at startup on cold days for a long time, a couple years. Now about 4 years later it has gotten to the point of loosing it at any time. Tryed over filling oil close to 10 gal, did not help. New filter, new oil Hytran T/A has been blocked out or straight shaft put in late 1980's or early 1990's. Been used bushog, light blade work, pull small dirt pan. Guessing MCV pump and R&R valve, any other ideas.

If when the steering works, it works fine at low RPMs, then the pump is probably OK. Pump failure will start to show up at low engine speeds as the pump volume drops off so that it can no longer maintain correct pressures.

The other thing that can cause problems like you describe is a sticking flow divider valve.

The pump on a 1066 is rated at 9 GPM at rated speed. The flow divider assures 3 GPM for steering and brakes at any RPM and pump flow. The remainder of the oil is directed to the oil cooler and then to lube the differential and ring and pinion gears. Continuing to use a tractor with a weak MCV pump is a major cause of rear end problems with these tractors due to lack of lubrication.

classic signs of pump failure.

Ron,

There are lots and lots of tractors that take that same pump.

So, ya might as well bite the bullet. It isn't gonna get any cheaper by waiting another 4 years. :>)

sounds like the relief valves are sticking in the mcv.

The tractor has always had to be idled up just a little to make the steering and brakes to work without being extra slow. I have pulled the pump it is free and extra easy to turn, infact you can spin it like an idler gear on bearings.

If you can spin the pump "like an idler gear" then it si DEFINITELY shot. BTDT.

Found three valves stuck, got two out the other will not move, it is one of the presure relief valves. Put oil in the pump by hand, worked the air out of it and had to spin it at about 150rpm before it would push my thumb off of the presure port. Thanks to all input plus all other forums to direct me to the problem.
