H drawbar clevis question

At the drawbar clevis there is a pin that holds the drawbar in place. On mine there is a hole at the bottom. The parts catalog doesn't show anything there. Should a really bid cotter pin go through that?

Also, at the bottom underneath there is a threaded hole for what is listed as the: SWINGING DRAWBAR PIVOT PIN LOCK PLATE. What is this used for? I'll have to look for it and get one if it's important.

Do you honestly think I would have got it running without saying something?

No, I'm waiting on cables. Shopping around. I was hoping to hear from someone on YT who offered some cable, but I'm also shopping around just in case that doesn't work out. A local auto electrician recommended by a tractor club friend has some old tractors, possibly Farmalls. Anyway, unfortunately, his uncle died, and he is attending the funeral, so I am waiting for him to get back to quote me on material and labor. I'm hoping he can get me going pretty cheap, in case the YT member offer doesn't happen.

I assume it's running as you are working on a drawbwr. Go to ebay and search farmall bracket. There are both H assemblies with all parts on them listed.

Mike, for what it's worth, that swinging drawbar was an option. It did not come on the tractor from the factory. If you don't want to spend the money to make everything correct, the drawbar is one place where you can do it. Just remove the drawbar and also remove the bracket that it mounts in. Your H will then be correct, just as it came from the factory.

The info below is correct, the large pin you have is incorrect. The part is a true cylinder, no bulges or holes in it. The drawbar is placed into the clevis from the back, and the pin is pushed up into the hole (dry) the small tab with hole is lined up with the threaded hole in the clevis so that its longer end is over the big pin hole, and the 1" long bolt is threaded in, holding the small retainer in place. Mike, the threaded hole is for a 3/8"x3/4" hex head National Course thread cap screw that goes through the small flat bar (That has a hole in it). The flat bar is supposed to hold the large pin up into the clevis so it doesn't drop out. If your pin has a flange on one end of it someone may have modified it. If the flange is large enough try inserting the large pin from the bottom of the clevis, then place a large washer (Like a fender washer, lock washer and the the 3/8" cap screw through them into the threaded hole in the bottom of the clevis to hold the large pivot pin in place. I know clear as mud without a picture.

Well, my pin has a lip on the top to prevent it from coming through. The difficulty I see will be I have to mount the drawbar with the pin into the clevis, THEN mount the clevis to the tractor.

You are correct, Mike. With the earlier style the pin had a flange and had to be installed into the casting before bolting to the rear end housing. Someone later figured out that it was much easier to remove a small capscrew w/plate and let the pin drop out when removing or installing the swinging drawbar.

Mike the clevis bolts on the bottom of the tractor first, then the swinging drawbar. Insert the pin (1" I think) into the bottom of the clevis, then screw a 3/8'x 3/4" long bolt with lockwasher and flat bar with hole in one end into bottom of clevis to keep the pin in. Dave

The plate keeps the pin from falling out.
