Guys, on my ol 966 w/ a DT414 and IH pump. DSL is leaking from around the throttle control shaft. That is the little round shaft that is directly below the pump mfn tag. Can that seal be replaced by me or do I have to send the pump off to some one. Your thoughts, experiences,... Please.
Later,
John A.

Guys, Thank you, Having to pull the pump is what I was thinking I would have to do, but had to ask, and see if it might could be done another way. So that too will gets put on my "To Do List" after my Shoulder replacement Surgery on Wed of this week. Thanks again!
Later,
John A.

John: You are as usual, getting good advice from the vet. My experience is taking pumps off an engine, then after the pump shop has dealt with it, I put it back on the engine. It has served me well.

Myself i do not mess with pumps , I pull them off and run them over to a good friend that has a pump shop . He does not hammer me and if the pump need rebuilt it is done and if it need just a couple seals then that is done . IF you pull the pump off just make sure 100% sure that you are on TDC BEFORE ya pull the pump . Myself i always pull the valve cover to make sure that the #1 cyl. valves are closed and the timing pointer is set at #1 and since i hve the valve cover off when the pump goes back on i run the valves . Since valve adjustment is like wheel bearing and never checked or adjusted it is time.
