should the plate that covers the points and condenser just pull off? I can"t get mine to budge and I don"t want to break it. Thanks!

The dust cover should lift off. Sometimes they stick and you need to pry them off.

Andy.

Bob is correct. It may take a putty knife to wiggle it free. JimN

The dust cover should pull straight off of the distributor shaft. Sometimes you need to wiggle it a little to get it to let go. There is no notches on it as it just slides on over the shaft.

I want to thank all of you for your quick and helpful advice. I did have to use my pocketknife to put a little pressure on it and popped loose. I thought it should just pull off, but it's been so long since I had one apart I wasn't sure and I didn't want to break it.

I read the forums almost every day, but it seems like just about every question I need to ask someone already has. Again, appreciate it!!
