Hoping someone can help me . I have a IH b276 tractor runs a bd 144 diesel engine, problem is that after it runs for about 5 mins at idle just stops dead, wont restart, just like its ran out of diesel. you can pump diesel (has the cav rotary type pump) out of both screws on injection pump with lift pump crank and crank wont go unless you tow it, fires straight up with a tow but problem just repeats. Have had injector pump checked by a specialist, he reported no probs, took lift pump apart seems ok cant seem to find any air leaks, tractor wont stall if you hold revs on the engine. Sorry for the long post but am just about ready to push this thing off a cliff, any help would be much appreciated

Hi Nigel, had a strip of rubber about 1/16 by an inch long get into the fuel system in the B414 Diesel. It got lodged in one of the holes in the banjo fitting bolt. The sympton was tractor would idle but would die under load. Opposite to to your problem.

Lets know what you find.

Hi Nigel, had B414,434 & 384 with BD154 same setup as BD144, never had your problem. Have you diconnected the fuel line at the input to the injection pump and cranked the engine to see if there is good fuel flow? The other possibility is a plugged fuel return line. Have you replaced the diaphram on the lift pump?

Good Luck

Hi guys, yes good flow of fuel to injection pump when cranking, have inspected lift pump diaphram looked okay but could be suspect i guess, i will pull all lines an test for cracks, have found a electric fuel pump in my parts bin i will bypass all thge lift pumps filter etc to see if this does anything, will let you know what happens

Im not an expert on that tractor, but I worked on lots of diesel motors.Sounds like it could be a cracked line, they will crack right next to where they are flared. It would be on the side before the injector pump.Could be a bad fuel filter. If it has an electric solenoid to shut the fuel off it could be that.Just a guess, dont really know anything about that tractor.
