You haven't said what type engine it is but since you said valve cover and not covers, it is probably a 6 banger and it is not a flathead. The F-12 was made from 1932 to 1938. Maybe that will help you find parts. Don't know if that is the original engine or not. Should be some out there for the old chevys. Napa or JC Whitney. Go to www.kanter.com for rebuild kits for trucks. In 1932 chevy made a 194ci engine, 1933-36 they made a 207ci engine, and in 1937-39 they made a 216ci engine.

Before my old 57 chevy with a 283, I had a nifty fifty chevy deluxe with a 6 banger when I got out of the army. Hauled and drank a lot of beer in that thing. It had very spacious rear floorboards for throwing empties back there. It had bad dimmer switch on the floorboard and my girlfriend/now wife didn't know what to think when the headlights would just shut off while driving around out in the country. Course I figured out it only did it while on brights.

Just the fact it is a Chevy (bowtie) pretty much rules out it being a flathead. He really didn't need to remove the valve cover to figure that out!

Since he's not forthcoming with any more facts, we don't even know it's a 6-cylinder. Chevy has made quite a few 4-cylinders over the years, as well.

I'm REALLY curious what engine you have. PLEASE post back with a little more info, and let's figure out what this thing is!

Start by clueing us in to the number of cylinders, and a photo would be GREAT!

Take out the Chevy engine and put in a IH engine, then parts will be easier to find.

Andy.

Chevy hasn't made that many engines, variants yes, but only a few basic engines. If you can identify it, parts should be readily available from many sources. Most common V8 was the 26? cid (quickly became the 283)engine that was in the 55 Chevrolet -- I think that block is still in production in certain applications. If the exhaust manifold has the center two exhaust "pipes" (2 and 3) on each side close together with space between 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, it is a variant of that engine. It could also be the old inline 6 if the tractor has been lengthened.

Can you provide a picture? If you have one, upload it to "help identify" on the left...

If the Chevy motor is a post WW2 series engine, it will be pretty easy to find parts. I would go for an original engine (parts can be found reasonably well, as can whole rebuildable engines) Show us pictures, JimN

I will give you the numbers that are on the motor I can not find what is out of. I has 4620304 stamped on the side. And under the valve cover it has a bowtie and 648532 on the motor. Also at the bottom it has F15 8. Please help having no luck.
