Is the frame from a 400 the same as an "M"? Forgive my ignorance, but they seem very similiar. Basically, would M sheetmetal fit on a 400? thanks for any help in advance!

Don't think you would want to do it. First the 400 radiator is to tall for the M grill. To mount the M gas tank the hydraulic unit and valves would have to go, then you would need a SMTA hood. It can be done by bolting a M front bolster on the 400, M radiator and shroud, lower collant pipe and shorten upper hose. M steering worm shaft, center steering shaft bearing and gage mount from a M. M hood will work now. Modifiy or make a rear gas tank support for M tank. But you would have to do something about hydraulics if wanted. Realy if you had shift forks for a MTA to add to a SM type transmission top cover and cover put on 400 about any part of a stage 2 SM or SMTA can be bolted on one way or another to work without any cutting or drilling. Don't think its worth the trouble unless you have parts laying around.
