Does anyone know the part number for this item? I would like to obtain one and I am told that it can tell you if you have a bad glow plug.

I had bid on this item and had to go out of town, I got out bid by $0.25. Was it worth $46.00 used, I do not know? I have not found it yet through Google.

My tractor is a 1962 Farmall 504 Diesel. As of right now (and the past 30+ years) I have a big red blinking light from an IH combine. I would like to find a functional replacement Glow Plug Meter. From what I can tell, it is basically an ammeter scaled to register what the 4 glow plugs are supposed to draw when all 4 are working.

Any help apperciated,

Charles

Please see my original reply on page 1 amidst all of the glow plug checking posts... the original IH branded gauge as in the photo is unavailable... you can get close but not exact through CIH... have not see any aftermarket reproductions

JIM N---Which units had the series string glo-plugs? Just curious.

Sorry, I just do not know. I know it is true due to analysis of Glow plugs on trucks. I know IH had them because this forum provided that info. I also know that the simple act of looking at the wiring from one plug to the next in series describes what is on the tractor. Oh well. JimN

Charles, Look for a junked 715D, all you need to test glow plugs is a test light. Pull wire from plug, hook light to a hot wire and ground threw plug. If it lights the plug is good. To use a glow plug meter you need to check them one at a time, it will not indicate one bad plug. Good luck, Chuck

Correct for Glow plugs in parallel circuits. Some on some IH and others are series plugs like old Christmas tree lights, and are definitely not grounded internally. These need to be checked (when none work because one is bad) by testing from the supply terminal to the ground terminal with a volt meter while someone is pushing the buttom. The bad plug will read about battery voltage across the blown filiment. The good plugs will read near nothing. JimN

Look guys, I am an Industrial Electrician with an Industrial Engineering degree. I know how to use Ohm's Law. I am not asking HOW to find a bad glow plug. I am asking HOW to find a replacement glow plug indicator/gauge/meter.

If anyone has the part number that cross references to the retired IH number I am interested. I searched through Google and CNH's parts website, nothing. I just want to replace the meter.

Thank you guys,

Charles

Jim, I didn't know they ever put them in series, so those would have 2 wires to each. Then I would recognize them. Thanks, Chuck

IH does not make that exact gauge anymore... I just replaced the glow plug gauge in my 560D with what CIH offers. It is a generic gauge, looks like the original with the 3 dots but no IH logo. Bout $50 or so from my local dealer.

I still have my original gauge but the glass is broken out of it. Not even sure if it works anymore...
For those that don't know, if you go to caseih.com, click the search for parts red picture and then the underlined "Right here" text at the bottom of the next page you can view most of the parts break downs of everything that IH ever offered, going back to the 40's / 50's for implements and 1939 ish or letter series tractors...
take the number you need to the dealer and when they type it in, it'll list any new p/n if the number you have has been superceded.

Easiest way to test glo-plugs is using an analog multi-meter on low ohms scale. Remove the wire from the glo-plug in question & hold 1 lead from the multi-meter to the glo-plug connection, & the other lead to ground. A good plug will register on the meter. A bad one will register infinity.[open]
