Thinking about purchasing a 706 farmall ? Don't know much about this series of tractor. Does anyone have any pros or cons about the 706 ?

thanks

I had one back when gas was $1 a gal. and a 5 gal can did`nt last long . I`ve got a 706 with a 310D in it now and really like the tractor . Do wish I still had that gaser to feed , etc in the winter and let the diesels sleep .

Plenty of power . I pull 4x16 up and down these hills and dont keep the throtle wide open . Pull a old 850 chainer up and down`em too and dont run out of power . I heard the other diesel eng. was a little short on power too .I pulled 4x14s with the gaser in the bottoms but did`nt go very fast .

Does the 310 have enough snort for that big of a rig?

Always heard that the 706 was underpowered. 'Tis a fair sized tractor.

I agree. Diesels sleep in the winter and let the gassers snooze in the summer. :>)

I have never felt that a 706 or even a 756 gasser was under powered . There were only two of the gas tractors that i felt lacked power one was my 460 gasser and the other was my buddys 766 gasser . As for being gas hogs when they are kept in tune . IF they are not then they are like any engine that is not tuned up they will not preform correctly . And Not using the correct fuel makes a HUGE difference . The only tractor that i ever owned that sipped fuel was my 450 Diesel even with the wick turned up as far as i had mine if you were only going to stay out in the field till ya needed fuel you had better pack a BIG lunch.

Had a 756 gas for years. It just sipped gas til gas got over $1 a gal, then it seemed to get more thirsty. 706 with 263 is easier on gas than the 291 in the 756.

I have never found much between the two as all the 263's that i have rebuilt come out of the shop as 291. And when running the correct gas and tuned correctly they use less . Farmed for a lot of years with them as i could buy dead one for darn near the price of dirt in the dead rows at sales bring them home and fix them and run the bag off them . We still run two of them one is 65 and the other is a 67.

Depends on what you need it for. If you"re going to the field, it"s not the tractor for you, not with $3 gas. Figure 6 gallons per hour under a heavy load. If it"s just going to be a yard tractor or a backup for a diesel in very cold weather, then yes. They"re exellent starters.

I've never had any experience with a 706. Our 560 gas (at nearly 5 gallons/hour) pretty well cured me of any interest in gas tractors over 60 horse.
