when i 1 st start it up and push the clutch, the peddle is real slow coming back, i sometimes pull it back with my foot. after it runs a while the clutch will operate correctly. over the weekend i started it up for the 1st time in a few months, the clutch took even longer to start working. if i push on the clutch when the peddle is stuck down it will make a gringing noise. I've only had the tractor a few years haven't spent much time working on it yet so i'm not very familiar with it yet. is the clutch wore out, pressure plate sticking or do i just have a big rats nest in there somewhere

So when was the last time you greased the throw-out bearing. When you grease it also get some on the tube where the TO bearing slides. Mite need to spray some WD40 in there to break up the junk holding the linkage up.

Grinding noise means the clutch free play is way out of adjustment. Slow to come back could mean any of a number of things, such as the throwout bearing binding on the shaft, binding somewhere in the pedal linkages, etc.. Or, the combination of the two could be telling you that the clutch and pressure plate need to be replaced.

The throw-out-bearing HOLDER slides on a guide, and the holder has a zerk for lubing it"s inner bore just for the purpose of freedom of movement. The zerk can be accessed through the inspection hole on the side of the bell housing. I have mine apart at the moment, so if you need/want a pic, let me know and I"ll do it after work.

Hi Pete,
How is the touch control unit coming along? I'm stuck trying to find pistons for mine. Greg

Hey Greg, how's it going? When I sent the block to the machinist, I moved on to the torque tube and TO bearing while I was waiting. I got the block back now, but I have to wire brush the outside, (he didn't get too aggressive for worrying about the bores), and then figure out what to do with my right rockarm. Either the key or the keyway is worn all to h*ll, and the arm was moving back and forth on the shaft a good inch. I don't want to shear the key.
What do you think happened to your pistons? Were the inner O-rings shot?
I'll call the guy where I got my used crank, about your pistons. Ya never know.
