On a recently purchased 140 the left hydraulic lever , when moved forward, does not stay forward. The right hydraulic lever stays in place. What is the problem?

Vacherie: There are spring loaded friction pads in the pivot of each hydraulic lever. Either the pad is worn, and need new pad or adjustment.

Quite often adjustment doesn't work, mainly due to rust. I've taken that whole assembly off, completely disassembled the levers, cleaned every part, then apply a dry lubricant. I did my Super A and 130 about 15 years ago. Before I started I stopped by CaseIH and picked up 4 of each pads and springs. I didn't use 1 pad, or 2 springs. My guess is this chore will only hit you every 35-40 years, I havent had to do my 140 yet.

I suspect those gave more trouble if the tractor was equipped with cultivators and side dresser. The cultivator would create more lever use, and the side dresser more corosion.
