I-O-Wah Gary: First, let me thank you for the photo expo on the various types of hose couplers. I had no i-deer what I had. Still don't know for shore', but am 95% certain it is the one on the right - i.e., "66/86 - IH couplers". Whatever it is I have... they are on both my SM and SH.
So, what do I do if I want to hook up a new Saginaw 3-point? Can I get the male fittings to match what is on my tractors, or do I have to change fittings/hoses on tractors? What about adapters - are they still available?
So.... You've told me my illness; now, what is the cure???? Thanks in advance for all the help from everyone. You guys are the best!

Mike,

Can ya just take those couplers off and plumb it up direct?

Ya really don't need a disconnect on a three point hitch.

Allan

Good point, Allan. What a fool I was to not have thought of that. Thanks.

It's very hard to disagree with these guy's, change the couplers to work for you, the previous owner did, thats why you have the ones you have. If you researched the reason for couplers you'll find they were made as a quick disconnect, because in the old days many of the old timers would hook the hoses directly together, when the plow hit a rock and disconnected from the drawbar, the hose would break and spray hot oil all over. Make that baby yours, they did.

Mike: I saw this earlier, Gary must be out of town. Are you sure you have to one on the right? The reason I question this is those were very 66-86 specific and a set of the females would be quite expensive. Probably more money than anyone would put into a SH or SM. I suspect you have the center one, the pioneer. Most of those oldies got upgraded in the heyday of poineer, 40-60 to the end of 56 series production.

I'm not positive, Hugh. But, I think so. Mine (on the two tractors) are about 2 5/8" long and have a double row of knurling "grip" patterning on the outer circumference on them. They look the most like the ones on the right. Gee, I wish I knew more about things like this!!!!
Growing up in the city, I learned how to dodge a gang of tough punks coming at me down the Atlantic Coast Line railroad tracks, but learned little about the various types of hose couplers. I did not pay attention to this stuff when on the farm each summer, as I was a 10-11 year old kid when we got the two M's. All I wanted to do was drive them!!!! (And, I sure did do that.) 'Course back then, most of what we had was purely drawbar in the South. Little or no rear hydraulics and no remote valves.

Red your female ends on the tractor are most likely pioneer from what described. I will get you a picture of pioneer ends with the knurling like you described.

I should not have used the center example I did for the pioneer female. The one I pictured is not a true example of most pioneer female ends.

The one I picture is a replacement to fit in the housing that Allan had, to change that block over to pioneer from IH.

Hi Mike , Others like IA gary will have better details but the general answer is Yes . You can still get old style IH ond JD and other old styles . Easiest is to just switch to pioneer couplers . Screw the old ones off your hoses and put the new ones on . Unless there's a reason why this won't work that I'm not aware of it makes things a lot simpler . ...Randy
