I know the optimum battery cable size for a 6v is 00 gauge. But what about 12v? I may just run my H as a 12v, and add the 12v generator and VR after I get it running.

The optimum size is also 00 gauge. Though 0 will do well. Resistance is the shortcoming of all DC power conductors even up to 240 volts. If your cables are conductive, they increase the stability and reliability greatly. They also look substantial. If you are going the rout of 12v with generator etc. then having the cables look 6v is also a consideration. Wimpy #4ga wire is common on auto applications, but do not play the right part on a tractor. JimN
