Well guys, I just paid for a Farmall H with a Case loader (hydraulic dump). Tires are OK, loader and tractor work great, just have to (so far) replace the fuel line from the petcock due to it dripping fuel. Seems to be a great tractor, BUT I"m new to the world of IH/Farmall, so expect lots of silly questions. Sure seems a lot beefier than my little Allis B. Looking forward to making some square bales with it in the near future. The farmer I got it from wants something smaller for his little garder (he just turned 86 Monday). He suggested I take the loader off if I wanted to actually use the tractor around the farm due to the weight of the loader. What do you guys think? I"ll post some pictures as soon as I get it home, hopefully a little later this week.

You make me envious, the H is a fantastic tractor, have had one in the family since 1961, you will love it. You can add many later model options or leave her original, but without power steering with a loader you will improve your muscles in the upper bod. The biggest problem we have had is that carb. she likes to work rather than rest.

Thanks for the feedback about the H. I guess I'll get it home and see how it handles with the loader/bucket. Besides an Allis B, this is the only tractor we have, and the only one with a loader/bucket.

I have a 51 H. It's fun to rake and bale hay with it. The hay has to be good and dry and the windrows small. Otherwise it won't handle it. I also have a smaller tractor with a frt end loader. Usually take the loader off in the summer. Seems like I eventually get it caught on something if I don't. Use this one for mowing. Good luck with yours. Post some photos when you can.

When on the farm , we had a M Farmall...we put the loder on and off as needed....block the loder up on wooden blocks.... then all you have to do is carefully pull into it and bolt it up..... my dad did it his self.....

Congratulations! I'm envious. Well please do make sure you post some pics when you get it home. As for you're question, the answer depends on who you ask. I've got a Farmall 140 and am praying that a reasonably priced 1 arm loader comes along for it, since it's a hobby tractor, my primary use is dirt work and snow removal.

However, if you're primary use is going to be turning earth, maintaining and harvesting, then I think the old boy is right. Take off the loader (and probably sell it, since it is no easy chore to take on and off) and use the tractor with other implements. Especially true if it has a PTO hydraulic pump, you're going to want that PTO shaft free, and any horsepower freed up by the removal can be better used in the field. And finally, there is the weight factor. The tractor will be far easier to manuveur in broker earth without it, and is less likely to sink. So, if you aren't going to use it that much, take it off and (here's the best part, an excuse to have more) buy a smaller tractor with a loader dedicated to little chores.

That's my 2 cents worth. Way to go!

It would steer better without that is for sure. If it is your only loader you might not want to take it off. Loaders are sure handy. If you wanna pull her than get rid of it.
