Hello everyone I just overhauled a D282 engine in a 706 it runs great, decided to try the gears and all of the forward gears work fine but I only have two reverses in Low and when I try it in the 3-4 range and let the clutch out nothing happens no grinding or the engine doesn't load down or anything, it acts like neutral. Thanks just want to make sure the whole transmission works before painting. Also if it is suppose to be more reverse, how to check for it look under that platform where the driver is at or adjust linkage first. I didn't know if the 8 reverses were only for the TA models. Thanks for your input.

You should have 4 speeds in reverse. You should have 4 speeds in Low. You should also have 4 speeds in high. For a total of 8 speeds forward and four backwards.

The shift linkage can become very worn on those tractors. It is quite possible that because of the wear, the trans just plain isn't going into those gears. There is a kit available to fix that problem. The kit is not expensive.

Rusty: I was thinking the same, however he seems to be getting 3 and 4 on the forward side. I suppose it could be linkage position, 4 speed in relation to the high-low-reverse. That being the case, it may be wise to get the kit. Wont be long before forward 3 and 4 don't work.

Every 06 tractor that I have seen had all four reverse gears.

So I don"t under stand how the gear would not be there for reverse if it is for forward.

Maybe there was some way to block it out but I have never seen one.

Hello so I gather from the responses that there should be a total of 4 reverses in the lower range correct and none in the high range. How expensive is this rebuilded kit that you mentioned. Thanks for your responses
