1066 black stripes in late 1975?

I have a 1066 with the serial number: 2610178 U056529. Most books put this as a late 1975 model.

I understand that alot of people repainted and put the black strip on earlier models. My does have the black strip also. What makes me wonder if some late "75 models were truly painted with the black strip is because my front end is the same as the upgraded "76, the 3 point arms are similar to the upgraded "76 model and the tin on the side of rad where the 1066 emblem would go is the same as the "76 model. Pre-"76"s have vents/fins on it and the "76"s are smooth tin and no emblem.

It seems that someone would have gone through alot of trouble and expense to put all these upgrades if it wasn"t stock.

That's the nice part about these red tractors.

They generally are always backwards compatiable as far as parts go.

The first time you run into a black stripe, it'll kinda throw ya for a loop because ya can't find the darned serial number.

Believe 60% of what you read and 50% of what you see. I took delivery of a new non black stripe 1066, first week of Sept. 1975. I can't remember the exact number of weeks, however black stripe models were there within weeks after I took delivery of my tractor. They were definitely there before the snow arrived here in Canada.

I do believe that parts were probably interchanged as the late "75 models were being produced. Similar to the "53 and "54 super h"s.

The shifter on a 06 series is understandable since they had alot of trouble with them, so one would want to replace it. But to replace the front end, three point, and tin work seems not as likely to be switched out.

IH-1066: I'm not suggesting what equipment or options were on black stripe tractors. What I am trying to tell you, there were black stripe tractors at dealers before the end of 1975. I bought a new non black stripe 1066 in Sept 75 and before the first snowfall here in Canada there were black stripe 66 series tractors in the dealers yard. I remember that as well as I remember my own middle name. I remember giving the dealer a dig, saying, "I suppose these new black stripe tractors have all kinds of improvements and options, and they came along before the ink was dry on my check."

I don't know what the differences were, don't care. A new tractor in 1975 was a significant purchase, thus one tends to remember the tractor events that took place, around that time. What I'm telling you is black stripe tractors were only weeks behind my Sept 75, 1066.

Those tractors had options of 3 different wide front ends and two different 3-point hitches.

The vented front cowl tin started to be phased out as far back as 1972.

Nothing supprises me any more on just what one will go to to change a given model over , as i have seen 56-66 sires shifter on on 06's and unless the serial tag is on the right rear housing then i do not believe that it is a black strip.
