I have what I believe to be a planter lid that says Canton on top and Illinois on the bottom. In the center it has the the P&O symbol. I have looked on google and past posts here and can not find much information. I would like to know the color this is supposed to be, and possibly the date. Thanks

Deere Valley...I've lived and worked in Canton for more than 30 years. My wife worked in the IH plant office for about ten years before it closed so we both know many of the folks who worked in the factory. I'm fairly confident we can find someone who could answer your question. Those old-timers have an incredible amount of knowledge about the products they helped make. They also are very proud of what they did...and they still get a huge kick out of talking about it. E-mail me if you have additional questions.

Thanks.

Kevin

Original color of that part probably depended on when it was made and possibly what exact piece of equipment it belonged to. There isn't much existing documentation on paint colors of any of the companies that became part of IH, or even after they became part of IH, until after the company decided on uniform paint schemes for the entire product line. From that point forward, the IH paint decisions documented paint colors. The paint decisions are available from the McCormick Collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

For the earlier colors, colored sales brochures and posters are about all we have to work with. Quite a few images of these things can also be found at WHS.

type in "P&O Plow Co Canton Illinois" and a large amount of information is available. IHC operated this factory until 1983. A fire destroyed what remained in the late 1990's. I was through the town a few years ago. The factory must have been a huge complex in it's day.

I saw and read that website, very interesting but it does not tell the color or have any pictures. Everything I read was just the history.

Thanks
