My Hydraulic Pump/system just stoped working. It is full of oil, tractor starts and runs with no noises that are out of the norm.
It has 3 remotes and all have stoped working. Per your answers i 1. checked screen-clean
2. full of oil
3. no pressure from pump at remote outlet
4. oil not moving inside of res tank

Can a pump just quit working and the tractor still runn normaly?

Any more ideas?

thanks

Paul

Well ,If you lose fluid from leaking conections, or other reasons, and run low of hyd. fluid you are going to lose your prime. Maybe it never happens to any of you , but it has to me.

First off. Thanks for all your help and input!!

Turns out that the pump lost prime. Not sure how or why.
Bottom line all is working again.

Thanks!!!

if it lost a prime, check the vent on top of reservoir to see if it plugged

Paul,

If it "lost prime", it's on it's way out anyway. I'd be for replacin' that thing.

Yes,

They are steel gears inside of an aluminum case; they wear and wobble out over time.

Sounds like ya need a pump.

An air leak on the suction will make the pump loss prime. Check for cracks and replace the o-rings

There could be a pump failure internally that would allow the shaft to turn, but the gears to be stopped.
Pull off the steel piping and take a good light and see if you can see inside the pump to check motion.
At the least, you can pur a rubber hose in the intake hole, and another in the exhaust, and pump into and out of a bucket. The bucket should be about at the height of the pump while trying it. Priming might be needed by putting oil in the intake side hose before trying it. JimN

what noises do you consider "normal?"
what does the plumbing look like? if you have a rubber hose in the suction line, the insides could have collapsed. maybe a relief valve quit? do you have factory powersteering? the flow divider could be unloading it all to the powersteering.

Paul, in a word, no. The pump drives the distributor, so unless you have a diesel that you've somehow managed to convert to direct-start, the pump must be turning in order for the tractor to run.

I suppose it could have lost prime, but it doesn't lose prime for no reason. Have you tried priming the pump through the little fill hole on top of the pump? Fill it up with the tractor not running, then start it up and see what happens.
