Will other IH Model tractor generators work on the early Farmall Cubs that have the cutout on the generator? Also will a 6 volt cut-out that is available in a farm & fleet store work to replace the old cut-out on the early cub delco generator? Thanks for any replies on this.....Gale

Best to just replace the cutout with a voltage regulator unless you just want to be exactly authentic original. The voltage regulator will give you much better service and longer battery life and you don't have to worry with adjusting the charge rate with the switch. You can get a regulator that mounts on the generator just like the original cutout and will look the same. A bit or rewiring will be required, but it's fairly simple and the regulator usually comes with a diagram. A saddle mount regulator should be available from numerous sources for around $40. The Cub generator and regulator are hidden up under the hood, few people will notice the difference.

And another advanatge to a "fake" diode type Cutout Relay Jim mentioned is they can work fine with no maintenance or many problems indefinitely PLUS work at either Pos or Neg ground and have the wirign diagram right on them depending on if youre at the original Pos or switched to neg ground. Go for it

The generators almost all had the same body capacity, and mount. Differences amount to pulleys, and two or three brush designs.
The best Cutout relay is a fake cutout that has a high amp diode in the tin box of a cutout relay. Search GOOGLE for solid state cutout relays.

If it can handle 25 amps, it will work fine, and never give a moments grief.
