I am in the process of restoring a 42 A and as the right seat bracket was un usable I purchased a usable IH set on Ebay. Here is the delema the
left seat bracket is still usable with the original SE tag that matches the motor SE but it is heavily pitted and the one that came with the set is in much beter condition.Should I swap the tag and use the better one or keep the original
bracket as is? Or does any of this realy matter? Thanks for your coments.

That is not a large bracket. On similar items I have filled the pits with JB weld, sanded and then used body filler. I don't trust glazing putty or body filler in deep pits, the JB weld is permanent in that situation. A LOT of sanding, but it works. Then transfer the original tag.

Whoops, you said the original one was pitted, in that case just transfer the tag to the better one.

You could change the serial tags.

You can get a new tag stamped with your tractor's original number.

You can fill the pits with glazing compound it's easy to work with but if you aren't fixing up a tractor for competition judging I wouldn't worry about it that bracket is under the seat it's not a hood or grill.
