After purchasing a new woodruff key and assembling the sector onto the shaft, I found that the keyway in the sector is worn. The 1/16" play would multiply at the steering wheel, so I'm going to repair them both.

I picked up a complete keyway broaching set at the Branch 13 swap meet in Woodland this past summer for $40, so I'll be able to resize the keyway to 1/4". I ran into my machinist friend at a party yesterday and he said I saved about $200 on the broach set, he will resize the slot in the shaft for me this week. From an (Oh Sugar!) situation at first discovery, it looks like only a minor setback!

Greg: 80% of all looseness of steering I've experienced with offset Farmalls has been right in those two Woodruff keys. I've seen up to 1.5 turns of free travel at the steering wheel, on more than one ocasion.
