Farmall A Zenith Carb Problem

Starting going through my carb tonight and found many issues. No spring on the float needle, clogged passages and many other impurities floating around. but....
The biggest issue I am up against is the float needle seat is locked in solid. I tried without success to turn it out but after opening the slot twice the original width with my screwdriver, I had no choice but to drill it open. The brass is still wedged in the threads especially on one side of the hole. After taking some measurements on the new seat, it looks as though it is not a fine pitch 3/8-24 but a special .35-24 . Is this correct? How have you guys gotten these locked up seat bodies out???
Any help would be appreciated.

Tim

Well I went to work tonight and put the upper body in the Bridgeport. Found centerline of the hole and re-tapped the hole. The remaining material came out the bottom of the fuel inlet and all is well. It is for sure a special thread on the seat, I checked it on the comparator and it is not a 3/8-24. It is a modified major diameter thread with a 24 threads per inch. It will work for now until i get another donor carb and swap it with the old one.

Thanks for the info !!
Tim

Well, it's possible it is ruined now. If so, start watching on ebay for a used one. Just type in "Farmall carburetor" and also, "Farmall carburator" (sic), and also "Farmall carb". They turn up all the time there. Good luck.

Tried that before I drilled it out with no luck.

Good Mornin Tim, I have never heard of .35 - 24 thd. I have rebuilt both my zenith carbs on my A and Super A and never had that problem. Do you have a 3/8" - 24 tap ? If your drilled hole is the tap drill hole size allready you could try running the tap in and see if you can clean up those threads. Hopefully your hole is not off centered !

The major diameter of the new seat is .343. A far cry from the .375 of the 3/8-24. That is what is keeping me from running a 3/8-24 tap in there.
