Early photo of Me (standing behind the tractor) my dog Junior steering, and the tractor my dad and a neighbor built for his three (at the time) kids. I was six. The tractor is a tricycle single front wheel (wheel barrow size) is mounted on an angle iron frame made from wind mill angle iron. The engine is from a Pincore Reel lawnmower (pincore built engine) with a reverse in its built in trans. (one speed each way, and 4:1 reduction) It was shaft driven with U joints to a walk behind rearend. (it was not a differential, it had drive pins that turned on the bull gear hitting stubs on the axles (supposed to be for turning, but was not a success in any way) We had hundreds of hours of fun and learning on that unit. Its downfall was the brass bull gear in the rear axle. It wore (might have been worn already) and when the worm jumped over the worn teeth, the worm gear snapped in half) Fond memories though. The engine went on to other powered machines, the frame and rearend were recycled. I still have the dang bull gear, and one rear rim/tire. JimN

I don't think we ever really change. We can look at our interests today and trace them back to things we liked as "boy-children". This photo and reading Jim's posts today is a further offering of proof. Thanks for sharing that photo, Jim. mike durhan

I was born on Valentines day 1949. Makes me 59.
That little tractor sure was a load of fun, when the inside tire on a turn was powering, it "pushed" hard. NASCAR term. Jim

Jim, Yours sure makes ours look primitve. My brother and I built one with steel wheels from a hay rake, a 1x12 frame, a three sided wooden box with a front wheel inside pivoted on a bolt, steered by a flat chain attached to each side with a vertical shaft that had a sprocket on the bottom end and an old steering wheel on top. A seat from the rake and a 1 and 1/2 horse Briggs and Straton with a chain drive to one wheel. Give it a push to get it started and shut it off to stop. We did a lot of pushing. You reminded me of all the fun we used to have with cousins from the city, they thought we were genioses. Thanks Jim, Chuck

Awesome idea, seen something simular on EBay several years back built on a cub cadet chassis. It brought quite a bit if I recall. How many years ago was that picture taken. JayIHMan
