Last year I bought a 2400 B diesel (454) with shuttle shift at auction. Growing up, we had the "other" red, green & yellow tractors. The ones beginning with O & M. So not too familar with IH mechanically.
The tractor is the right size for my use, mostly mowing. While using it, I discovered I would have to use both levers to raise the 6ft. finish mower. Then on a small slope, it wouldn't back up & I would lose steering as well. The brakes don't work either.
Is the problem a pump or a valve? Where might the defective part be located? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! retiree

Retiree, could be weak hydraulic pump. Require pressure & flow guages to test. The other possibility is MCV valve but usually MCV causes problems with steering or 3pt not both. Brakes are fed off return line from hydraulic oil cooler in front of rad. Any hydraulic flow problem will always result in brake problems.

Thanks for your response JB2. The Hytran fluid level is full & I changed the filter. Seems to happen after about a 1/2 hr. when engine & oil is hot.

The dipstick is by your left heel on side of transmission case. It does not hurt to overfill the transmisson by about 5 gals. Also change the hydraulic filter in canister under left foot rest. Since brakes don't work, they will require bleeding. There is a bleed screw over each rear axle. The bleeding procedures are in a recent post for 454 or 784.

454,464,574,674,484,584,584,784,884 are all same tractor except for engine.
