What weight oil should be used in the cup of the air cleaner assembly and how often should it be changed. Someone told me that I was fine as long as there was oil in there. Seems a little hard to swallow that. 340 utility

Use some of the "used" oil that comes out of the engine. That oil doesn't lube anything and doesn't have to be clean. Just clean the cup well, and then top it off with fresh used oil.

Use the same wt. and type of oil in the air cleaner cup as you have in the engine. Never allow dirt in the cup to build up more than 1/2" deep, see your manual.

Use the same oil as in the engine; change the oil as needed depending on operating conditions. I change at least once a year on my show tractors that don't get used very much.

You use the same oil in the air cleaner cup as what you use in the engine, and that cup should be thoroughly cleaned and fresh oil put in every time you change the engine oil. If the air cleaner has not been serviced in awhile, you will probably need to use a putty knife to dig out the muck.
