On an model A right side final drive, when re-assembling, is it better to attach the diff shaft housing to the trans case first then the final drive, or attach the final drive to the diff case than to the trans case? Thanks Ray

You can do it either way. Depends on your shop and the tools you have to work with smooth floor ,cherry picker and the list can go.

Good point, Gene.

It's been a while since I was at this point, and I think I was just workin' backwards from pullin' it out that way. So it's all a little foggy, but I think I decided at the time that the retaining ring holding the shaft in on the outside might have been a factor.

I'm thinkin' too, that if I'd fitted the shaft and slipped the housing over it, I'd have been at a loss for liftin' the final up to fit it onto that setup.

As you say, all depends on what you've got fer a shop, etc...

'Course (you can see from the picture)I was workin' in less than ideal conditions. I had to run the left wheels of that trailer up on blocks to get a level workin' surface.
