Just got this 1941 M from the original owner and have been tuning it up in the shop. I noticed it leaks around the hydraulic pump gasket area while its just sitting. I did just check and fill the Hydraulic"s and noticed that it was leaking lots after the fill. Its slowed now but its still seeping some around the bolt area (which are tight). Is this a gasket problem and if so can I replace the gasket with out having to remove the pump? Thanks for the help.

A transmission jack, or a floor jack with a platform attached works well for lowering the belly pump...

Or, you can buy threaded rod and lower it that way, I believe KellyC did a write-up on it for his H... Link

The IH repair manuel shows how to make a pair of lifting tools for the hyd. pump. They are simple to make and makes the job easier. They fit into the two keyholes on the bottom of the pump.

Tarkwondo guy, which bolts are you saying are tight? There are 10 bolts that attach the pump back plate to the reservoir, with a gasket between, but you can"t even see some of those bolts until you drop the Liftall from the tractor. I"m with Nebraska Kirk in that it"s probably leaking from the pumps's drive shaft seal. The drive shaft coupling you"ll need to remove before you can replace the seal can be a bear to get loose. And the Lift-all pump is indeed heavy, and top heavy. It tends to want to flip over once the top of it clears the belly opening as you lower it. Good luck.

The bolts that are tight are the bolts that hold the reservoir to the bottom of the tractor. I believe you all when you say the pump is heavy, what is your guess at to what is weights? Will I need help or can on guy handle taking it out and putting it back in?

Most likely the seal on the pump needs to be replaced. You will have to drop the entire pump/resevoir assembly out of the tractor. Be forwarned, it is HEAVY! Then unscrew the end off of the pump shaft, it unscrews counterclockwise. You can then remove and replace the seal.
