There are several IH 784s in our area and when you add equipment or a loader, most of them loose braking power. What is causing this? Is there an "easy" repair to fix it?

Also, can anyone direct me to where I can find a reliable engine repair kit for a 784?

thanks,
Brad

I had a similar problem with mine on one side. It turned tout to be a tiny leak in a line. I found mine buy tying down the pedal and watching for the wet spot. i had to rerun an external line and now all was well. It spit ALOT of air after the fix. it needs another bleeding but has been fine since.

Hi Brad, the hydraulic brakes are the weakest point in the 84 series tractors. The the hydraulic brake circuit is fed by the return hydraulic oil from the oil cooler and dead ends in the brake pistons by rear axles. Problems can be caused by leaking "O" rings on the brake cylinders, cracks in the brake lines or air bubbles in the hydraulic oil. Make sure to use only IH Hytran or equivalent hydraulic oil and you can over fill the transmission with 5 gals of Hytran to be sure when using a loader or remotes not to suck air into the hydraulics.
You can check for leaky "O" rings or cracked hydraulic lines by bleeding the brakes and then let the tractor sit for a day or two and before starting it, depress each brake pedal one at a time, if one or both go to the bottom then there is either a leaky line or "O" ring.

Never worked on a 784 but it sounds like you might be sucking in air somewere's. Is the oil level correct, filter clean? Could also be a bad hydraulic pump?

Doesn't make sense to loose braking power, i.e. tractor takes longer distance to stop, or wheels no longer lock up?

A front loader will make any tractor not stops as quick, makes it heavier and puts more weight on the front (non braking wheels if in 2wd)

stops working all together. you can bleed the brakes from the bleed screws on each side but after hooking up a disc or other equipment (man down the road uses a loader), brakes stop working again
