I have burned off two eyelets on the heavy terminal wire of my 656 D alternator- checked out alt.-ok any body have an idea of whats causing this? thanks, dtk.

What kind of ring terminal do you have? Should be something like a 3M terminal---not a Chineese 100for a dollar. Second--the connector should be soldered for maximum current carrying. If the alt. is like you say---OK--I'd check the battery for a bad cell--they never come up to full voltage & the regulator always is trying to put out more to satisfy that voltage deficit.

Poor connection, either loose or corrosion. A poor connection will have high resistance and when put under load of high current output will cause it to become hot enough to melt the wires.
