I pulled pistons and valves yesterday, most of it went well, but I can't remove the safety valve piston from the block (part #20, page# 27, Touch Control - Serviceman's Handbook, GSS-1024).

Also, when I turn the block over, I hear a noise (a part rattling that I can't identify) that came about after I pulled all the valves and pistons. Any ideas?

Unfortunately there are a few scratches in the cylinder bore of the LH piston. I'm hoping that some work with crocus cloth will remedy this problem.

More to come, Greg

That's looking good there, I've got a little bit more to take off mine to get it to where yours is.

You probably want to remove the pressure regulator orifice plug and screen (#30 pg 26) and give it a good cleaning. Mine was pretty gummed up and I've been told that when they plug up the cause the system to stay in high pressure mode.

I've scraped the gasket of the head (not yet done the block) and had very good luck with a razor blade scraper. Not the easiest gasket I've ever done but that worked much better than my other scrapers.

I'm getting a bit worried here, when I saw that page reference I just reached out and picked up the book without even needing to look!

How did you go about removing the pistons?

Mine just slid out.

The allen head pipe plugs in the bottom of the casting look like they are cross drillings to all the valve bores. MAybe you could plug up the pressure regulator bore and blow the piston across your shop and under something heavy with a little compressed air.

BTW, if anyone needs the little screens (#53, same drawing), they only come in (5) packs. I have spares. $3.07 each plus $0.41 postage (more to Canada). Email is open.

Greg, I still haven't been able to get back in my shop to start pulling mine apart, so right now I'm as useless as a one-legged mas at an *ss-kicking competition, but I'd like to ask what you used to get that gasket surface cleaned.

Hi Pete, I used Scotch Bright Pads with an angle drive die grinder after I took everything apart. That was one stubborn gasket! Attached is a picture of the scratch I have to fix this morning.

I've opened my email if you would like to exchange progress off line. Take care, Greg

I use this hi-speed air powered tool with a pad. I use the aluminum safe pads on everything to save the metal.

Makes short work of that chore.
