I found out some time ago on this site that it is used to disengage the tractor from the gearbox and stop the tractor from moving but keeps the pto going. After finding that out. I took it apart cleaned it and got it working nice and smooth. Normally you would push your clutch in and stop and so would your pto. You pull this lever and the tractor stops and pto still keeps moving. I'm not sure how much anyone needed or used one. Any thoughts?

The buyer did all right too. He could have found one $500 cheaper somewhere else and then spent a few grand in gas, food, motels, & trucking to get it home. Then he doesn't know the prior history of if it has any prior major problems and some stranger could easily lie or feign ignorance of a major problem and he would have little recourse. This buyer didn't have to drive far to look at it before buying, he knew the seller and what the seller did as far as taking care of equipment, and he didn't have far to drive it home. These intangibles make the transaction totally worthwhile. They were friends enough that they probably wouldn't cross each other up.

Makes me wonder what the value of an H is sitting on a pineapple farm in Hawaii. Zip to me.

With loader?

I'd say you did OK. I see ones with bad tires and more rust than paint bring $900-$1100 all the time then someone will balk at $1500 for one in similar condition to yours. Then at the next sale one like your will go for $2500 - without the loader.

LOL Why not just give me the $500?

I think the guy did OK with his selling price... I don't know the market where he is at, but I do know that in ND a good running H without a loader is worth around $2000 and many farmers are still using them weekly to run grain augers, mixer mills, etc.

Not trying to beat on you, but "a few days" later is not the time to be asking these types of questions. The tractor is sold for better or worse, and you got what you got. You did well, but what if you didn't? There isn't anything you can do about it now that won't cost you a ton of extra money.

You need to look to the future. Time to start looking for a new basket case that you can put back together and make pretty.

You made a guy happy and you've got $2500 in your pocket. That's a good day in my book.

I think you did alright.

A lot of times a selling price depends on where you live and how bad someone wants it.

I live in Maryland and a H here seems to sell for somewhat less, BUT a M is another story they allways seem to bring the big bucks if they are in good shape.

I am going to be the jerk here. I really dont like the question posed unless your item was sold at an auction where it was bid up to a price. When you ask the question as you did, "I personally" take it as "Did I get as much or more then I could/should have gotten?" Since most of us that are involved in older vehicles (doesnt matter if it is tractors, cars or model trains) are enthusiasts most of us visit sites such as this and when we see posts like this by someone we may have just bought something from it would leave a bad taste in our mouth if they saw a bunch of people celebrating that you got a mint for your tractor. Luckily that didnt happen with your tractor and most seem to think you both did good on the deal but I still dont like the question. It would have been much better in "my opinion" if you had simply stated that you sold your tractor and "if" someone asked how much you got for you simply responded with "I sold it for $2500". I know the end result would have been the same but it would have been much more tactful in "my opinion" at 1am (mst)!

Joe

It was a quick post and I should have described it better. I sold the Farmall to a neighbor down the road from me. He offered me $2500 for it. On a quick decision I took it. I really wasn't sure what it was worth. That is why I asked how did I do. Maybe a bad choice of words. Didn't mean to affend anyone. My neighbor waves and smiles when I drive by and he's driving the Farmall. Maybe I have a bad taste in my mouth.

Ah don't worry about cowboys remark your post was alright, maybe he's just tired or cabin fever has the best of him. In my area an H is very commom to find for a lot less. Guess it all depends on the location you live in, or how bad someone wants the tractor. Your tractor did look like you took good care of it, and the tires looked like new ones.

Did the loader go with? If so, I think you did OK. If it was just the tractor you did well... in my opinion.

Even with the loader that was a lot better than just OK, without a doubt that was a GREAT price to get for an H! Maybe the prices of the Red ones will rise afterall, great news to hear.

Just wondering why that would be such great news? High prices tend to ruin a hobby, not help it. I always liked the fact that I could pick up a nice Farmall for a reasonable amount and work on it for fun.

Well not everybody looks at or uses their tractors as hobby items or toys. Some people do use them for real work. Look at other makes and watch what they are selling for.

So.... if we use them for farm work, we want to pay more for them??? I don't understand that.

Yes, it included the loader, snow bucket, snow blade, wheel weights, and chains. It sounded fair to me. Thanks
