Well after a week of convincing my professor to let me write my thesis paper on Cyrus McCormick, she gave me the green light. Two of the books that you guys told me on this site The Century of the Reaper and McCormick His Life and Works put her over the edge. She was pretty clueless what he had done for the entire ag industry, and of course I had to mention that my family has been running “his” tractors for 30+ years. Now I just have to whip together a 15-20page paper and a presentation…. and deal with 5 other classes at the same time, O’ The joy of college lol

Thanks for the help everyone!

Andrew

I ran across a site for McCormick farm in NC I think - run by maybe Virginia Tech now. It said his dad worked on the reaper idea and passed it on to him. Set up a brief outline now and change it if you have to. Discuss the construction, how it mechanically worked and how it was an improvement over doing it by hand. You may be able to go forward to the Regular tractor and how it caused the depression...well not quite by itself.....
