Need help on the 450D again Folks.
Before I tear this tractor apart, I need some parts.
The transfer/primary pump is dumping fuel into the bottom of the injector pump. This tells me there is a bad seal in it.
Called CIH to try and find a pump or a kit and they could not find anything.
I can get a used pump...but must buy the entire injector pump to get it.
Where can I find a kit, or at least the 2 mounting gaskets to either rebuild the transfer pump, or the gaskets to put another pump on the tractor?
Any help is appreciated,
Bill.

Kits are not available, but seals are. The seal you need is only available from CaseIH. It is Part #266594R91. It is a proprietory part that carries Part #CR531319 on it but is not available from other than CaseIH.

The primary pump can be removed without having to remove the injection pump. The kicker is, when you remove the primary pump from the inj. pump the gasket gets torn. It's easy to make from gasket material. However, when you take the primary pump apart to replace the seal, the very thin gaskets usually suffer too. To my knowledge they are not available. At least not in our neck of the woods. If you are very carefull you may be able to rescue them. If not; .002" to .003" plastic shim stock works to make new gaskets with. Because they are so thin, patience is a vertue.

Removing the seal can test your patience too. Thanks to MDiesel over on the Red Power site, I've had good luck using a 5/16"X3" carraige head bolt with the head of it ground down to fit inside the seal wall. Then I collapse the seal wall unto the head of the bolt. With a short piece of tubing or pipe that fits over the seal housing and with the bolt protruding beyond the pipe, put a couple flat washers and a nut on the bolt, and draw the seal out of the housing.

Good luck.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I got work done on my SMDTA injection pump at International Fuel Systems. They have 2 facilities in NW Oh. One in Findlay and the other in Toledo. I think the HQ's is in Toledo. I've been told they have gentleman there who used to be an IH mechanic back in the day and knows the gas start diesels very well. The # is 419-475-5276. They can get seals and parts for just about anything diesel. Just hold on to your wallet! I'm sure they would be willing to ship stuff if you are too.
