Hello,
Can anyone plese help? Are there any records anywhere to tie up a W30 serial number with an original engine number.
My W30 does not have a serial number plate on the fuel tank support, therefore the only thing to go on is the engine number (XC19899). The engine number indicates it is a 1937 Tractor, but how can I know for sure what the tractor serial number should be?
I have bought a new serial number plate, but want to be able to stamp it up with the correct tractor serial number (if at all possible)
Thanks
Nigel

Out of all my experences I would say that the motor # is correct.I own a Farmall regular and a collection of F series tractors and the motor # and the serial # all match. However they all didnt match from the factory but they were close. Call it a 1930 and know one will know the difference,or Question you

You can't. Engine numbers sometimes matched the serial number but not always. And then you don't know if the engine has been replaced. The best you can do is wath for casting codes on any of the major castings. the code will be month-day-year with the year being a letter. The letter code for 1937 is G

Many thanks for your comments,
I have checked the main casting numbers and the majoity are 4 digit numbers followed by DA.
The main casting of the frame/axle housing is 2466 DC or possibly DO. If the year code for 1937 is G, does this make the tractor 3 years earlier than 1937 ie 1934 for the letter D. Hope you can help throw some light on this?.
Many thanks again.

Those are part numbers. The date code is going to look like G*6*15 which is for June 15, 1937.

You mean 6*15*G for June 15, 1937.

Thanks for all the help,
I have managed to find some numbers on the main frame casting on the underside(in addition to the part number).
but they are in two locations close to each other.
One has what looks like the letter D* or it could be G* The other is an inch or two away from the first and is almost impossible to make out,
possibly * ???? *
Were the casting numbers ever split in two areas? or should they always be together as you described
ie. 6*15*G.
