1943 H U KNOW THEY ARE TWO SLOTS ON AXLE THE CLAMP ITSELF HAS KEY MADE ON INSIDE TO FIT ONE SLOT ON AXLE. ON MY WHEEL THERE IS NOTHING THERE TO FIT SECOND SLOT.WAS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE MADE IN WHEEL OR WAS MADE LOOSE AND PUT IN SLOT BEFORE TIGHTEN UP THE CLAMP.ON MY 400 IT APPEARS THAT THE KEY IS SPOT WELDED TO WHEEL

My 46 M has 2 slots in the axle. One key is on the hub and the other is on the clamp.

It's supposed to be in the wheel. At some point IH changed to a single slot that was wider, but it wasn't the H. That type is on my 460, don't know when the change occurred.
