Our tractor club has a Farmall narrow front end tractor for a raffle project. The serial number, 113313, makes it a 1951 Super C. The decal just says C. Some of us think it is a C and some insist that it is a Super C. When we got the tractor we were told that it was a C. Is there an easy way to tell for sure? Thank you.

If you do a search on Paul Shuler he sometimes puts a link in his posts. He has a picture of his C and Super C side by side. The easiest way is going to be the 2-3 inches of clearance between the gas tank and the touch control unit.

Ronn: Go to the casting date codes, although a SC with that low serial number could have some codes very close to the last C. Thet might not tell you.

Check the engine serial number, just below number 1 spark plug, on a machined flat surface. Letters and numbers are stamped. A Super C with tractor serial number 113313 should have an engine serial number around 13800.

Then go to the block part number C will be 251069 R1 or R2. SC will be 354898 R1. Super C fuel tank is about 2.5" above hydraulics, while C is fuel tank is about 1/2" above hydraulics. Then there are the brakes and pedals someone else mentioned. Don't go by the water pump, there have been more of those added to Cs than a dog has fleas.

Also, does it have a water pump? Sc does..... doesn't mean someone didn't put one on a C either, but something to look for.

Do the numbers match and what do the casting codes read that should tell something. Lots of tractors have the wrong decals on them as there are lots of Cs with SC decals same way with the Ms with SM decals.

The brakes and pedals are a giveaway as MNScott said. Some of the other differences are easier to see if you had a C and SuperC next t each other. Taller radiator and grill, more clearance between the top of the hydraulic block and the bottom of the gas tank, for example.

The serial number alone, though, should wrap it up as being a Super C. The serial numbers of the Cs never got to six digits, and the SuperCs started at 100001. (This from Guy Fay's Data Book)

Poosibly somebody put a Super C seat support on it (with the serial tag). I would believe that before believing someone put a C hood on a Super C.

A Super C has disk brakes and curved brake pedals. A C has band brakes and straight brake pedals. Super C also has a 123CI motor and a C has a 113CI motor.
