Do you generally put antifreeze in the old Farmalls with no water pump?

The reason I ask is that as I understand it, these old non pressurized systems depended somewhat on evaporation for their cooling. You would have to add water every day Just wondered if antifreeze might affect the evaporation .

They do not evaporate to cool. The radiator removes drastic amounts of heat, cooling the Coolant, so it sinks to the bottom and enters the block. ThermoSiphon. The old timers used alcohol in the water to prevent freezing. It did evaporate, but not because it was intended to, but that it was unavoidable. Put 50/50 mix in it and keep down corrosion. no problem. JimN

sorry, but shiould also be noted that having antifreeze,in the proper mixture,50/50%,will also help keep your tractor from overheating and adds corrosion protection.

You need to premix it before you put it in since it wont circualte as well as a waterpump would.

if you live in an area where you have freezing weather, you will need antifreeze. water pump or not.
