Does any one know who has the records for the tractors when they came off the assembly lines. I have heard of people being able to get reports showing what was on the tractor when it rolled off the assembly line and am curious how my super h was from factory. I contacted the Wisconsin Historical Society but they don't have the records. Any one know where they ran off to. Thanks

And in addition, IH had (and Navistar still has) plants in Wisconsin.

The McCormicks selected WHS long before any of the Case, Tenneco etc. involvement. The McCormick family decided that WHS was most capable of managing the collection.

I'll try to do the story quickly. The McCormick Family collected materials about Cyrus starting shorty after his death and had their own historical collection. When the sons and daughters of Cyrus started passing away, the family interest in the cllection started to wane, and they started looking for a home. There was a lot of interest in the various historical societies and institutins, but the Wisconsin Historical Society won because it was right next to the big historical department at UW-Wisconsin, and because the Society offered to take over the salaries of the people working for the McCormicks on the collection until they retired. The McCormick Family materials came up in 1951, machinery followed in the late 1950s, various bits and pieces came up in the following years. In 1991 the main ag side of the IH Archives came up from the Navistar Foundation, a bunch of great IH photography from the early 1980s came from Case in 1996 (brokered in large part by Ralph Baumheckle), the truck side of the Navistar archives came up in 2001, and even morfe stuff in the years since. At last 4 of those shipments have been multiple semi trailer loads.

JI Case bought Farmall, they are from Wisconsin to get the tax break they had to give the stuff to an organization in Wisconsin.

Could be, but Case didn't buy IH. Tenneco owned Case, bought IH and merged it with Case, likely saving two companies at the same time.

Guy Fay is the one to answer that. But, I think the main reason is the Wisconsin Historical Society is a well managed, excellent organization. IH was headquartered in Chicago, but had plants worldwide.
