404 Utility - Couple Questions

Hey all. I have a 404 utility with an IH2000 loader.

First, how can I find out what year it is. I think I was told it was a 68 but I"m not sure.

Also, my starter has been giving me trouble lately. I now have it disassembled and it appears the main drive gear to the flywheel just spins freely on the shaft. What is the name of the rebuild kit I would need and lastly, how does that drive gear assembly get removed? There seems to be a floating washer just ahead of it but it sits in a groove on the end shaft and I can"t see how to remove it without cutting it off.

Thanks

Mike

went to a local starter/generator shop and they fixed me right up. Sorry, do not have DR part #s. NAPA did not list the drive either. HTH.

Just went thru this with a 504G. think it is the same starter. there is a flat washer that will come off when you take the drive end housing off. The next washer is held by a "captive" wire ring. Take a 1/2 in drive 9/16 12 point socket and put the 9/16 end over the end of the shaft and whack lightly with a hammer. The wire ring will "usually" stay in the shaft groove but be ready to catch it if it flies off. HTH

Thanks Tractorman, that is exactly what it is. Does the rebuild kit come with a new washer that you just slide in and it locks?

Also, on that starter. I may be looking for a new solenoid. You don't by chance have any up to date part #'s. I've been to the Delco Remy site but I'm not positive.

Thanks

Mike
