I dont know but for the amount of wires that can be on a tractor $500 seems pretty steep to me. I was just looking at Jeep CJ7's to buy and one guy had a complete new harness for his and he only paid $300 and change for his and there are a bazillion wires compared a tractor!

do you have a generator or alternator (what did it have originally)? what year was the tractor? the resistor you mention: was it behind the fuel tank or near the coil? International or Farmall makes HUGE difference. the ignition coil lead (in alternator harness) on mine goes all the way to the starter solenoid somehow, and then to the ign. switch.
where you at?

can you return the harnesses? maybe you got the wrong one because the counter guy assumed instead of asking questions. gas/diesel, early/late, ih/farmall, etc makes for too many chances to screw up. and if you have an alt conversion, then none of the oe harnesses will fit quite right, unless it was an oe type alternator. maybe just maybe a 666 or 686 harness would work but i shouldn't have said that until i know exactly what you have...

do you have a book new enough for your actual tractor? mine's one of the last and the book has lots of different diagrams

It's a farmall ser # 13022.Has generator with regulator. The resistor was by the coil. The manual I have covers farmall and international, gas or diesel. How ever the manual only has a complete schematic diagram for the international and not the farmall.

i remade ours myself a few years ago. would recommend _buying the front harnesses from case ih_ after my experience. the time, effort, and headaches make their price worth it. the rear ones for the lights i would do myself again anytime, as i feel IH was too cheap on the requirements for the lighting circuit. that little plug is a great place to tap into for your relays or whatever else you want to add...

the owners manual diagrams pretty much show you what plugs into where, and not what's wired to what. a good guide, but the details are lacking.

should harnesses not be available anymore, or if you must do it yourself, then i would recommend simplifying the wiring and beefing it up where needed (examples: charge circuit and light circuit--with relay(s) ). the OE ones were pretty redundant, most of the wires made loop-d-loops; likely to guarantee the thing would still run if the mice or copper cancer got to it. for the most part, the oe connector plugs are the way to go. you will need what's called GM 56 series terminals. no pre wired plug pigtail set you find at an auto parts store will be correct in looks, terminal needs, or duty requirements. also solder and heatshrink everything.

there were a few variations due to generator or alternator and probably serial #. do you have the correct original type alternator on it currently? it is an externally regulated model. the self regulated will fit but change your wiring diagram needs.

honestly, the Bob M diagrams for distributor ignition would almost work, you just need to modify them a little. if you have the electric solenoid on your carb, it would be on the same circuit as your ignition coil. if you separate the starting, sparking/accessories, charging, and light circuits, you can pretty much do your own without too much trouble other than "how to wire alternator" and "which terminals on starter solenoid"...

good luck. i can be of more assistance, especially if i find the diagrams i penciled back then. email is open too

I have already bought most of the harneses. The problem is they are not 100% acurate.I have wires on the new ones and the old ones that i can not identify. For instance the generator harness witch includes the ignition harness, has a pig tail of the solinoid wire.it,s not on my old one and is not on any of the diagrams in the manual. My tractor originaly had a resistor on it,yet no diagram in the manual shows a 656 farmal with a resistor. This is only a small sample of the problem I,am facing.

on second thought, maybe you have the right harnesses and all the leads are overwhelming you. for example there will be up to a couple wires from the charging section that goto the starter solenoid, and some from the under dash section that also go to the solenoid, etc. kind of confusing.

if you can identify what a certain wire is for, by using a continuity tester you can see where the other end goes and maybe figure it out that way too. wiring is not something you can write about and guarantee the reader will not misinterpret. that's why all these questions we are asking you will make a difference. gotta be extra thorough when writing about wiring. :)
keep asking questions,
keep us posted and we'll keep trying to help
