Buddy was putting out big bales on steep hillside with 560 loader tractor and brake came off while he stood by and watched er go.Long story short, how can we safely move a 560 with a broken off rear axle and houseing?? First the loader will have to be removed,at least it does have wide front end. I have volanteered to make repaires but we have to move it several miles to my place. Any ideas, Thanks Jeff.

Over 25 yrs ago my 1066 broke and axle while ripping tried to pick up the right rear after removing the two wheels from that side. Itold my buddy we are going to have to go back to the days of the wagon trains when a wheel broke.I got a 6x6 oak pole 12' long run it under the drawbar up to the engine rail chained it on took a 186 an pulled it with ease across the field up the drive an into the shop.As far as changing the axle on my 450 I did it in the field by my self but an extra man whould have been nice.3 hour job after jack up.good luck Wildman

It is a lot of fun changeing a rear axle on a M with a monted picker, sitting on a side hill with the down side wheel leaning aginst the picker or better yet,the wheel laying on the ground. This usually happens when it is just colder than he!! or muddy.

a heavy duty category 2 quick hitch has a hook for the top link that makes a dandy lifting point for the kind of situation you have.
i bought a 460 with a set-up transmission and moved it around that way.

Get a long stout pole, a corner post will do, run it from back to front and tie it up to the frame so it makes a skid. You con tie on and drag it for miles. When I was young I threw a back wheel of my 35 Ford over the top and my Dad didn't say much just got a old telephone pole and drug it to the car, jacked it up and drug it home. I've done it with tractors several times since. Its easier to work on them or change a back tire near the shop or in the shade.

This gets my vote for simple and safe. Backing it might pose issues, but a travois (OLD name) is coot technology. JimN

pick it up with a fasthitch somehow. saw a local repairman do that to our 1256 with an 806 when the axle broke off. i was maybe 3 or 4 then, so the details are fuzzy. i think the FH drawbar was bolted to the disabled tractor's swinging drawbar. everything was likely locked in place.

you can probably fashion a similar lift with a 3 pt drawbar or fh drawbar bolted to the standard drawbar.

safety first, use at your own risk.

How's about just backin' up to it with another tractor's 3-point, bolt the two hitches' drawbars together solid, lift the whole darned tractor up by it's rear, start the 560 to get rid of the bale, lift the loader and then just cart 'er home like a couple of toads in heat?

We broke the R/H rear housing on an Oliver 70 row crop. A man came with a Hobart welder in the back of his truck & put all the pieces back together in the field.
We never replaced the housing.

You bet!

Things like that always "look" bad. Get past that part and it's a downhill fight from there on.

Had a H dump the front end out from under me one time going down the county road. Rolled right out the front and I mean that ol' sucker came down hard! Right in the middle of the road and there she set nosed into the dirt.

Grabbed a handi-man jack and some bolts and I was back in the field in 20 minutes. :>)
