Has anyone had experience with 060 bore on Cub engine. I've heard it is not recommended as thare isn't enought material to bore beyond 040 , but I see many compainies selling the 060 pistons and rings.

A good machine shop can do it, and you should have no problems.

The numbered series cubs had different carbs, manifolds, pistons, cam shafts, and head. The governor weights were also different to give more rpm.

From what i have read and learned , the only differance in the 184 to the cub is compression .

The 184 pistons have a offset piston pin location hence increasing compression . The heards are the same we have CCed them .

The carb jetting is probaly bigger for the added power .

I have a 55 cub that the head has been cut .070 and it runs great . You can feel the added torque as soon as you let out the clutch.

Heads are cheap buy a spare head and have it cut or do it your self. I turned the rpms up 200 more and that also seems to help .

And for those who will say that is to much , there is no debating the facts , i cut it myself .

Runs great !!!!

My question is, if you do bore out to .060, how much more hp will you get? Sorry to tack a question onto your question, John, but I know there are folks that can answer us both.

You wont pick up that much, at least not enough to warrent the work needed. if you looking to get a few and i mean a few, then get a head, carb, and pistons for a 184 cub and use that. as for the boring you wont gain much there, and the flip side to is once you go that far there no going back... it will be her last overhaul.

Thanks for the responses. The engine is already at 040 and is in need of an overhaul. I believe it is a question of going ahead with the 060 overbore, finding another block that can be cleaned up with an overbore of 040 or under , or sleeving the block I have back to the standard bore. Thanks again, John

I already did and they didn't recommend boring to 060. Maybe I should just have it sleeved back to standard bore .
