installed new harness. all looks good except for the black wire that runs from kill switch to mag. its wrapped in that fabric that all the other wires are in and it won,t reach the mag unless i cut the wrapping back to give me the proper lenght. does this sound right. thanks

In that case, you might as well use it for the kill switch.

The original harness had 4 wires. Here they are with the original colors (which probably don't match most current replacement harnesses):

Light switch to Generator "F" (natural, black trace)

Light switch to Lights, splits to 2 wires at front (black)

Ammeter to Cut-out "BAT" (natural, black and red traces)

Ammeter to Starter switch (natural, red trace)

How many wires are in your harness?

jim, what you have shown is what i've done. seems when i ordered, i must have ordered a 5 wire harness. so with this left over wire, i'm going to go ahead and use it for the mag kill switch. will probally try to fire it up in a few days. waiting on a fuel strainer and some radiator bolts. thanks and i'll let you know.

You may be trying to run wires to the wrong places. The mag ground wire was not inside the harness. I believe the headlight wire was black.

hello jim. after checking numerous times (using early cub diagram). all wires coming off of light switch are correct. so i had this one black wire left and after hooking it to the kill switch for the mag. it sure looked like it should go there other than being in the harness wrap. so now i'm thinking hey i need one for the mag anyway. possibly i have ordered the wrong harness, but this one sure looks like it will work. let me know if you smell smoke. i'll let you know. thanks

All that wire does is ground out the mag when you
flip the switch to the off position. I would just extend that wire with another piece of wire.
Use crimp on connectors for making the connection.
