Does a SMDTA have to have a SMDTA hood or will an MD or SMD hood work? In other words is a SMDTA hood unique to that model? I can't tell from the parts books.

I'm not completely sure on the diesels, but I do know the SMTA hood is longer then the SM hood. Also, the gas tank is positioned farther ahead on the SMTA.

The hood is longer. About 2" longer if I remember right. Not the same as a regular SM, M, or MD. Gotta be a SMTA or SMDTA.

I believe it is longer because of the additional length due to the TA housing. Either that or the gas tank is longer, or both. SMD wheelbase is 90.75 inches, SMDTA is 99.75. Someone will have for sure answer. However, if the part numbers are the same, and have the SAME suffix, they are the same.

CNKS: Like Dave, I find this 99.75 ins. hard to believe. To start with 300 and 400 are only about 3-4 inches longer than a SH or SM. I know 560 and 656 come in under 100 inches, and they look damn long beside a SMDTA or SMTA. The large chassis 06, 56 and 66 are only about 102" to 104".

I'd call the SMTA same wheelbase as a 300 or 400, in fact I'll bet they are dead on, comparing nf with nf and wf with wf.

I know several listings show the SMDTA with the wheelbase you list. With narrow front I think the following, M and SM gas, 89.25. MD and SMD, 90.75. SMTA and SMDTA 95.75.

Where is the additional length accounted for? I read about this on this forum some time ago, don't remember the details, I have never compared them.

the length of the clutch housing doesn't have anything to do with the hood length. the hood rests on the fuel tank that is mounted on the front of the clutch housing. the frame rails are longer on a gas super mta than a m or super m, [the same as a n md or super md]that is why a gas supe rmta hood is longer than a gas m or super m. the extra length of the clutch housing shows up behind the gas fuel tank. there is a five inch gap between the tank and the steering post. on a m or super m they are usually rubbing together or very close. i only post answers that i am sure of. the only difference between the md and super md or the super mtad hood is the air baffle at the top of the back of the hood.
