I'm in the middle of attempting to rebuild a touch control unit on a Super C. Despite being about as brutal as I think I can without causing too much damage I cannot get the cylinder head to come off. Is there a trick or is it just well stuck after 50+ years? Many thanks, tractorsam

LOL, I just lifted mine off my Super-A about an hour ago. A 1949.

I can see what my first problem will be!

I don't even use it. I'm just tired of it leaking all over the torque tube.

Start another thread about how it goes, since you're a couple days ahead of me, about problems, tricks, tips, whatever. Be better info than any manual!

There really aren't any tricks, and if you are putting a kit in, you do need a diagram unless you have a photographic memory. Keep everything clean and lay out the old parts in order, that and the diagram will prevent any problems. Too many similarities among the orings, etc.

Take a rigid paint scraper and carefully drive it in a little at a time in several places. Make sure there are no burrs on the edge to dig into the metal. It will come off -- I had the same problem as you. Don't use a screw driver except as the final step once it starts to move.

Thanks for the info. Pretty sure there weren't any hidden fastners but I've been down that road before. I've tried driving a scraper in already but I'll give it another go tomorrow. After 50 years it sure is stuck on there tight. Many thanks, tractorsam

Mine came off hard, too. Only other thing I'll throw in is the gasket on mine stayed together and looked just like iron. It'll come off hard, too.

I forget the ft# to torque it down, somethin like 75#s so add to that 50 years of it stickin together, yep, it can be a bear to get loose. I just kept tappin it and finally got a blade between the 2 parts. Take it slow and easy, it will come off.
