the 12 volt coil i got from napa, its a IC14SB-NO EXTERNAL RESISTOR REQUIRED COIL. AND THE PLUGS I USED Were AUTOLITE #3116 DOES THIS ALL SOUND GOOD TO USE. ALSO I MAY NEED TO ADJUST TAPPETS I HEAR A BIT OF A TICK UP BY VALVE COVER, ANY SUGGESTIONS? ALSO THE 3 POST SELONOID MOUNTED ON THE STARTER MAY BE THE ONE THAT WAS ON THE TRACTOR WHEN IT WAS STILL A 6 VOLT SYSTEM, HOW CAN I CHECK THIS OUT? and should i replace it. it seems to work fine, does not get warm or anything. the coil gets a litttle warm, but not even close to hot. thanks for any input,Jim

You coil is FINE as-is. NO resistor. The 6-volt solenoid will likely last about FOREVER, with average use. No problems there, either. The Autolite 3116 is a good, hot plug.

You can get a new solenoid for about $5.00 like this one I put on my garden tractor. Hal
PS: I have an old Mercury Cougar that uses the same solenoid. Just has one less terminal.
