I"ve been fighting with this hunting problem on my C for ages... I put in the new bumperspring, didnt do much good. I adjusted the connection-rod between the carb and the governor. It got a little better. SO with some fine-tuning and adusting I got her running nicely. The only problem is that I can"t move the choke. The choke is pulled about half. If I pull it all the way I get a big black cloud. So I know it"s getting too much fuel. When I open the choke all the way, it starts hunting again like crazy and doesn"t run properly in any way. So my guess is I"ll have to give it a little more fuel. BUT in previous messages I"ve posted, you guys told me your main jet is turned out about 3 to 3 1/2 turns and your idling jet is turned out about 1 1/2 turn. So I put mine in the same position to try. The main jet is now turned out about 5 turns, and I don"t see any improvement... By the way, it"s also impossible to keep her turning on less than half throttle..

Any Ideas?

On my SC, hunting ls usually cured with carb adjustment or cleaning and adjustment.

Try looking at your manifold for leaks. You described exactly what my H was doing when the manifold was loose and sucking air. The cylinders with the leak don't get enough gas and when you use the choke the cylinders that don't have a leak get too much gas.

Don't know fer nothin' on a C. :>(

However, on larger tractors that "hunting" is caused by the carb fighting back and forth with the governor.

Adjust the throw on the throttle rod and it will settle down.

Travel.

Carb throttle plate tries to slow the engine, governor then tries to speed it back up; carb tries to slow it down yet again. Back and forth, back and forth resulting in a "hunting" idle.

In your IT manual, there is a whole section telling how to "syncrozine" the two so that they don't push each other around and will live together in harmony.

Unhook your governor control rod and see if the hunting stops.

The Idle jet (or a combination of passages and jets)is plugged up in the carb. There could be low float level, but likely a jet. The adjusting screw is used to fine tune the fuel flowing through the main jet. The idle circuit is more than likely the primary issue. Buy a Carb Kit, a can of spray carb cleaner, and can of soak type carb cleaner to put the disassembled carb into. Then clean as recommended on the can, and blow through each passage with the carb spray. Be meticulous, and follow the directions. JimN
