Put a ballest res back on ! It keeps the coil from over heating . It does not effect performance at all. It drops voltage going out to keep you coil cool . Run the tractor for awhile and feel the temp of the coil it will be hot . If you for some reason pull the ign switch on to do a test or it stalls with the switch on and it not running it will burn the coil up and cook the points and cond .

Trust me on this i learned this the hard way ! It took about 4 mins and the brand new electronic ign was toast.

If you bought a "12v tractor coil" then the resister is built in . "But" if it is just a 12v auto coil it is NOT and you need to add one .

If your not sure how to install one i will help you . Just check it all out before you get a fire like i did . I got this same talk from the I.H dealer .

the coil i bought from napa , was the kind that does not require a external resistor. so i got rid of ballast resistor. coil gets a little warm , but not hot. thanks, Jim
