My super M has stock 4" pistons and I want to purchase a 4.125" piston and sleeve set. My question is do I have to have the block bored to put oversize piston in or do I just have to change the sleeves?

It's a simple changeout Scotty. Your just going to go from thick sleeves to thin ones. Just be sure to measure your piston pins so you know which bushing you need for the rod. Charles

That's what I thought, but I was told that super M's had to be bored to hold a 4.125" piston. I was also told that Super M's could have different blocks depending on the serial number. Has anyone ever took a Super M apart and put thinner sleeves in the block and ran 4.125 pistons?

your super m is one in a hundred that hasn't had the larger bore pistons and sleeves put in it already. it would be much harder to find one with the original size than one with the oversize kit.

The M 248ci. has to be bored if you want to run the sleeves for the 4.125" pistons. Some just pull the sleeves out, hone the block and run the pistons that way. I have a 1952 Super M with 4.125" 281ci. pistons in it.Pretty early tractor (7022J). It"s not running anymore but it there. I did pull the pistons out, they have 1" pins instead of the larger M pins. They simply put the thicker pin bushings in the rod. The sleeves look to be around .060 thick.
So you"re not going to have any problems. Good Luck,
Charles

My serial number is L- 510216 J can any one tell me what size pin I have? b/c once I find that out I'm going to go head buy an oversize kit. I guess the guy that told me that the largest piston I could put in was a 4 inch is out of his mind.

Order the kit and when you tear into it,if it has the smaller pins order the bushings no big deal. Don't sweat it. Might as well get the pop up pistons too!
