Hi guys just bought a Farmall A converted to a 12 volt with a new alternator.The problem is it dis- charges instead of charging.At least that is what the gauge says.Any ideas?Thanks

Well when new it was + ground and most alternators need to be - ground. So if the wires on the gauge where not switch then yep it will read back wards. I have one or 2 tractor on my place like that but because I know the amp gauge is not wired right I don't worry about it because yes it says discharge but I know in truth its really charging

Ammeter needs wires reversed. No too easy. Take meter capable of checking DC and take reading on battery before starting. Should be around 12 volts. Now start tractor and take reading again. Should read higher like 13, 14,15 volts. This indicates charging circuit okay. If you pass this test, then swap 2 wires on ammeter. It originally when on 6 volts would have been positive ground. Now on 12 you have negative ground and wires if not already changed should be reversed.
